In 2009 a four year National Partnership Agreement on Natural Disaster Resilience (NPA) was agreed to by the Commonwealth and States and Territories, forming the Natural Disaster Resilience Program (NDRP). The NDRP is a grant funding program that encourages governments to work together with volunteers, the private sector and non-government sectors in an effort to enhance Australian communities' resilience to natural disasters.
This is to be achieved through each state and territory delivering a program of activities that:
Funding is available through three programs which form the Northern Territory Natural Disaster Resilience Program.
2013-14 Applications for funding are now closed. Please check back in early 2014 for details of the 2014-15 funding round.
As at 1 October 2013 there is no current agreement between the Northern Territory and the Commonwealth for the funding for the Natural Disaster Resilience Program to continue. The Northern Territory Government invites applications in the expectation that an agreement will be in place with the Commonwealth Government in time for grants to be approved and paid in the 2013-14 year. Applicants for the program should note that the Northern Territory Government may, if an Agreement on funding is not reached, cancel the Natural Disaster Resilience Program and should only submit a proposal for funding if they are prepared to accept the risk the program may be cancelled.
