In 2009 a four year National Partnership Agreement on Natural Disaster Resilience (NPA) was agreed to by the Commonwealth and States and Territories, forming the Natural Disaster Resilience Program (NDRP). As at February 2014, the NPA has been extended to continue until June 2015. The NDRP is a grant funding program that encourages governments to work together with volunteers, the private sector and non-government sectors in an effort to enhance Australian communities' resilience to natural disasters.
This is to be achieved through each state and territory delivering a program of activities that:
