Police nabbed seven drink drivers overnight, just hours before a high profile random breath test (RBT) lockdown is due to commence in Darwin’s CBD.
Four medium range and two high range drink drivers were caught by Police across the top end between 8:00pm and 5:30am.
Police arrested and charged a 52-year-old man after he allegedly drove his vehicle through a fence and returned a high range breath alcohol content of .170% in Mataranka. The alleged offender was further charged with driving unlicensed and driving without due care.
A 20-year-old woman was also arrested after Police noticed her speeding in Gray. The woman returned a medium range breath alcohol content of .113% at around 11:45pm. Her provisional licence with zero alcohol condition was due to expire today.
Senior Sergeant Kerry James said it is shocking that despite all the warnings and the large Police presence, reckless motorists continue to drive under the influence.
“It is very concerning that drivers continue to put themselves and others in danger and there is no excuse for it,” Senior Sergeant James said.
“The RBT lockdown, commencing at 3:00pm today, is part of a campaign to educate, detect and apprehend drink drivers across Darwin."
