Sexual Assault - Public Assistance Sought - Tiwi

Police are seeking public assistance in relation to an alleged sexual assault that occurred in the suburb of Tiwi yesterday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Janelle Tonkin said two women aged 39 and 40 and a man were at Casuarina Beach between 11:00am and 3:00pm.

“It is alleged the man assaulted the 40-year-old woman before the trio walked to a supermarket in Wagaman.

“It appears all three walked to the vicinity of Tiwi Oval where it is alleged the man sexually assaulted the 39-year-old woman at around 7:00pm.

“The woman was able to escape and alerted Police. She provided a report to Police this afternoon and described the offender as being of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander appearance, large build, approximately 50-years-old, 170cm tall. He had short dark curly hair and scars on his face.

“He was wearing a red and blue/grey coloured shorts, a white T-shirt with a collar and red and blue striped pattern, and sports shoes.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Tiwi Oval at around 7:00pm or anyone with any information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
