Arson Charges – Alpurrurulam

A 23-year-old man has been charged over an alleged arson in the community of Alpurrurulam.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Dash said Police were alerted to a house fire in the community about 6pm Tuesday, 19 January.

“Community members and the Alpurrurulam fire truck attended the scene to find the house fully ablaze.

“The fire was extinguished and nobody was injured.

“A witness on the scene told Police they saw a male leaving the scene shortly after the fire began.

“Investigators and a crime scene examiner from the Southern Serious Crime Squad along with a fire investigator from NT Fire and Rescue attended the scene and arrested the male,” Detective Senior Sergeant Dash said.

He was charged with a single count of arson.

He was been remanded in custody and will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday 25 January.
