Charges - Drugs bound for Nhulunbuy intercepted by police

Friday 01-Jun-2018 14:52

Northern Territory Police in Nhulunbuy have charged a 28-year-old male following a recent drug seizure in the East Arnhem town.

Late last month, Nhulunbuy Police executed a number of search warrants during proactive screening of mail articles. In one of the packages seized, five grams of a powder believed to be cocaine was found concealed inside a dietary supplement tub.

Investigations are ongoing into other drug seizures including a further quantity of cocaine, concealed inside a jar of Vegemite.

“It is truly disappointing to see the recent increase in seizures of methamphetamine, cocaine and other Schedule One drugs, destined for these remote areas,” Senior Sergeant Carl O’Donnell said.

“Northern Territory Police will continue to target the supply routes of dangerous drugs into remote communities in order to reduce the harm and devastating impact these substances have on the community,”

The 28-year-old male is due to appear before the Nhulunbuy Local Court in July, charged with one count of possessing a trafficable quantity of a dangerous drug.
