Stolen jewellery recovered in Gray

Northern Territory Police have recovered multiple items of suspected stolen jewellery from a 51-year-old man overnight.

Palmerston general duties officers were conducting proactive patrols in Gray when they came across the man acting suspiciously around 2:00am this morning.

Police searched the man and located the jewellery including a world championship wheelchair basketball ring stolen from Nightcliff on 22 January 2018. The man was also had a large machete in his possession.

The owner of the ring has been notified and investigations into the origins of the remaining jewellery continue.

The man will be issued with a notice to appear in Darwin Local Court at a later date for possess, carry or use a controlled weapon in a public place and possess stolen property.

Superintendent Tony Deutrom said the officers are to be commended for their efforts and enquiries to locate the origin of the ring.

“Our officers remain vigilant in their duties and any suspicious or illicit behaviour will continue to be targeted by our officers. Being able to return property to victims who have suffered a traumatic incident like an unlawful entry provides victims some comfort and closure,” he said.
