Firearms/Weapons

The Commissioner of the Northern Territory Police Force is responsible for the licensing and regulation of firearms in the NT.

As of 1 March 2019 all firearms registration and licensing across the Greater Darwin and Palmerston areas will be centralised at the Peter McAulay Centre.

This means, firearms applications and enquiries will no longer be accepted at Darwin, Casuarina, Palmerston or Humpty Doo Police Stations.
If you would normally attend those stations for firearms matters, as of  1 March 2019, you will need to attend the Peter McAulay Centre which is open Monday - Saturday 8am to 6pm.

The details of all firearms and their owners are contained in the Firearms Registry in accordance with the Firearms Act. The Registry is not open to the public however general information about firearm licencing and permits can be obtained from NT Police stations and front counters, or from this site.

Customer telephone enquiries to the Registry may be made from 8am to 11am on weekdays:

Tel 08 8922 3543

Fax 08 8922 3540
