Are you looking for a job that is exciting, rewarding and highly regarded? A career as a firefighter could be for you . . . Nowadays there's more to being a professional firefighter than donning the uniform and heading out to fires – we now have a strong focus on fire prevention and education about the importance of fire safety.

Have a look at our recruitment information, designed to help you assess whether you're cut out to be a firefighter.

Clearly, it's still crucial to fight fires and rescue people when required – and in fact, the NTFRS is just as well equipped as any fire service in other parts of Australia.

Certainly the role of a firefighter can be very physically demanding, but you must also be articulate and confident in a range of situations. Firefighters must be able to respond quickly and co-ordinate their activities as an effective work team. The work requires attention to detail in carrying out emergency needs, as well as skill in communication with dignity, respect and compassion.

If you pass the assessment, you can look forward to a career that gives you the chance to form incredibly strong bonds with the rest of your team and touch the lives of many people.

In this section, you can find out about all the basic entry requirements and all the necessary background information.
