TASER’s Introduced to Frontline Police

Northern Territory Police introduced TASER as a less lethal force option for frontline police in January 2008.

The TASER is a small, hand held device that produces an electric current, causing temporary loss of muscle control in an individual. This results in an inability to perform coordinated action for the duration of the impulse (a few seconds).

The TASER has been successfully deployed on a number of occasions for example, to restrain and/or disarm violent offenders, minimising the risk of injury to all involved.
