NT Police remote patrol near Kata Tjuta National ParkMembers of the NT Police Force may be required to serve in any geographical location within the Northern Territory where a Police presence is required.

Policing in the Territory offers an experience unlike that of any other Force in Australia. Policing is about building relationships in the community and making a difference in the lives of people through crime prevention and law enforcement. Working as a Territory police officer demands many skills, both physical and mental. It's much more than a job—it's a rewarding career and lifestyle choice.

While the Northern Territory Police Force is one of the smallest police forces in Australia, it is a modern professional organisation, which forms part of a tri-service, with Fire and Emergency Services—the only tri service in Australia.

There are great promotional opportunities. The Northern Territory Police Force recognises the need for ongoing training and staff development. Officers are encouraged to participate in specialist courses which can lead ultimately to tertiary qualifications.

Assessment Centres are held in all Capital Cities at nominated periods as well as Alice Springs and Darwin.
Applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • demonstrate that at the commencement of training they will be at least 18 years old.
  • be either
    • an Australian citizen, or
    • have permanent resident status and be eligible for Australian Citizenship.
  • have either
    • a Senior Secondary Education Certificate (Year 12 or equivalent),
    • a completed Trade Certificate, or
    • be able to demonstrate considerable employment experience, life skills and interaction with a variety of people
  • have general computing skills including the use of Microsoft Word, email, internet and typing
  • confirm your ability to swim a minimum of 200 metres without interruption
  • be physically fit and healthy. The medical questionnaire supplied in the application booklet must be completed and submitted with your application
  • declare any criminal history (including matters that were withdrawn or dismissed and juvenile offences) or driving/traffic offences
  • possess a current provisional or open driver’s licence to drive a manual motor vehicle. Suspended licences are not acceptable. If an automatic licence is held, you will need to upgrade this to a manual licence prior to appointment.

Everyone who has a strong interest in becoming a police constable, and who feels that they meet the criteria is encouraged to apply.

If you have any questions or queries relating to the role of a Constable email the Recruitment Department on pfesrecruitment@pfes.nt.gov.au or call 1800 005 099.
