Alleged Sex Offender Charged after CCTV Arrest

Police

Sex Crimes Detectives have arrested a 20 year-old man after CCTV operators alerted them to an incident occurring at a bus stop on Chung Wah Terrace in Palmerston.

CCTV operators observed the man acting suspiciously in the area at about 12.30am before he allegedly assaulted a 37 year-old female that had been sleeping in the bus shelter.

The quick response from both the CCTV operators and Palmerston Police ensured the man was detained at the scene.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Neil Hayes said the man had been remanded in custody since the alleged incident on December 25th.

“He has been charged with three counts of sexual assault without consent, indecent assault and gross indecency in a public place.”

The man will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.
