Arrests - Wadeye

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested 10 people in relation to disturbances in Wadeye over the last three days.

On the evening of Saturday the 29th of December and Sunday the 30th of December 2012, Police responded to four incidents where community members were involved in an on-going family dispute.

“The incidents involved between 50 to 100 people, some of which were armed with rocks, machetes and spears and threatening to engage in a fight.” Said Superintendent Danny Bacon.

“This afternoon a further incident has led to four people being arrested.”

“Fortunately at this time there are no reports of injury to either Officers or community members.”

“Additional members from Peppimenarti and the Metropolitan Patrol Group are being sent to Wadeye to assist local Officers.”

“Five men have so far been charged with various offences including Taking Part in a Riot, Armed With an Offensive Weapon and Assault Police. A sixth juvenile offender is facing similar charges.”

“Three women and one man have been arrested in relation to this afternoon’s disturbance and will be charged with street offences.” Said Supt Bacon
