Concern for Welfare - Tennant Creek - Update

Police

Police and Emergency Service Volunteers have located the body of a man, believed to be that of a missing 61-year-old Victorian man.

Superintendent Craig Barrett said a helicopter involved in the search sighted the body, approximately one kilometre from an abandoned vehicle.

“The body is yet to be formally identified but we believe we have located the missing Victorian man,” said Superintendent Barrett.

“Tennant Creek Police, NTES volunteers and members from the Territory Response Group have been conducting extensive air and land searches since first light this morning.

“Police were alerted to an abandoned black Mercedes at a road side stop, approximately 40 kilometres east of the Barkly Homestead at lunchtime on Monday 17 December.

“Tennant Creek Police have been conducting extensive enquiries in the area and in liaison with Victoria Police since the abandoned vehicle was reported to Police.

“The Mercedes had a trailer attached to it containing personal belongings. Recent information received from the public tells us the abandoned vehicle has been at the roadside stop since Wednesday 12 December.

“Investigations are continuing and a report is being prepared for the Coroner”.
