Firearms Stolen - Update #1 1Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a second man, wanted in relation over the theft of weapons from a navy patrol boat.

Last month Police received a report that a Defence member on board a vessel moored at HMAS Coonawarra, had been assaulted and 14 weapons stolen.

The two shotguns and 12 handguns taken from the vessel were swiftly recovered, following a Police raid at a Darwin city unit the following day.

“Detectives from the Major and Serious Crime Squads have arrested and charged a 26-year-old man.” Said Commander Richard Bryson from the Crime and Specialist Support Command.

“It will be alleged the man was responsible for assaulting the Defence Force member and the removal of the weapons from the vessel, before passing them on.”

“The 26-year-old has been remanded in custody and expected to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.”

“He’s been charged with Aggravated Robbery and two counts of Possessing a Prohibited Firearm.”

“This has been a painstaking investigation and I thank those members of the Police Force who have dedicated the last month progressing this investigation.” Said Cmdr Bryson.
