Juveniles Arrested Following Criminal Damage Katherine

Police

Seven Juveniles aged between 10 and 14 have been arrested following multiple counts of aggravated entry on dwellings in the Katherine region.

Acting Superintendent Clint Sims said houses on Murnburlu Road and the clinic at the Binjari Community were unlawfully entered over a four day period.

“The children have allegedly returned to a dwelling on Murnburlu Road several times where they have proceeded to destroy the interior of the house and trash personal items while the owners have been interstate on holidays.

“It is devastating for the owners of the recently built home that such extensive and senseless damage was caused, creating a repair bill of between fifty and a hundred thousand dollars.

Acting Superintendent Sims said one of the children was in possession of an unregistered handgun when arrested by Police on Christmas day.

“The firearm was thankfully recovered before anyone was hurt.  Investigations are continuing into how the weapon came to be in their possession.

Acting Superintendent Sims said the offenders were identified and property recovered as a result of some very prompt investigations by Katherine Police.
