Man charged with arson Darwin

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man with various offences, including arson, in relation to a fire at Casuarina Shopping Square last month.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board said on Thursday 6 September 2012, Police and Fire and Rescue were called to a fire in the ceiling space above the People’s Choice Credit Union.

“Police will allege the male unlawfully entered the roof space at Casuarina Shopping Square where he lit a fire above the Credit Union,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Board.

“A number of combustible liquids ignited and fell through the roof panels into the Credit Union causing minor damage. Thankfully no one was hurt.

“The 29-year-old of man was subsequently charged with arson, recklessly endanger life and trespass. The man will appear the in Darwin Magistrates Court today.”
