Northern Territory Police Operation Unite

Northern Territory Police will once again join forces for the sixth time with their interstate and New Zealand counterparts for this weekend’s Operation Unite.

Northern Territory Police Officers including mounted police and the dog squad will be out in force for the Territory component of the weekend.

Acting Commander of Darwin Metropolitan Command Matt Hollamby said this united Policing operation will target alcohol misuse and associated violence and anti-social behaviour in and around licensed premises.

“Police will be using this weekend to highlight the risk of injury, assault and violence associated with excessive alcohol consumption.”

“Operation Unite is an opportunity to call on the community to think about their behaviour when out drinking and consider the consequences long after the night is over.”

Police will be patrolling entertainment precincts and licensed premises and will utilise Random Breath Testing stations targeting people who continue to ignore the warning on the dangers of drink driving.

“There is simply no excuse for drink driving and endangering the lives of everyone else sharing our roads.

“If you are planning on heading out this weekend, plan your trip and if you are having a few drinks and don’t drink and drive.” Commander Hollamby said.

This weekend’s operation commences on Friday evening, 7 December and concludes Sunday morning 9 December and will run through Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
