Numerous Arrests - Wadeye

Police

Police have made 15 arrests in Wadeye today in the wake of a large disturbance in the community on Monday morning.

Of these arrests, five were relating to outstanding warrants, and 10 were specifically linked to the violent disturbance which took place at the community store, where approximately 200 people clashed on Monday.

Superintendent Daniel Bacon of the Arnhem and Western Division said that Police had been gathering intelligence and were swift to respond once offenders had been identified.

“As the investigation into the violent disturbance at Wadeye continues, we anticipate that we will be affecting more arrests in the coming days.  

“Community members deserve to feel safe, and I applaud members of the community for assisting Police with our enquiries,” said Superintendent Bacon.

Charges laid today range from Being Armed with an Offensive Weapon, Engaging in Violent Conduct, Riotous Behaviour  in a Public Place and Take Part in a Riot.

Six people have been remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Court of Summary Jurisdiction tomorrow morning.
