Ram Raid – Alice Springs

Police

Police have recovered a stolen motor vehicle used in a ram raid incident in Alice Springs this morning.

Superintendent Brent Warren from the Southern Investigations Division said Police received a report shortly after 2:00am that a vehicle had been used to break into the rear of a supermarket on Flynn Drive.

“The vehicle was rammed into the rear brick wall of the supermarket, creating a large hole for the offenders to gain entry,” said Superintendent Warren.

“Once inside the offenders have stolen a number of beer cartons. To gain entry they have caused in the excess of $30,000 damage to stock, assets and the building.

“This morning Police located a white Toyota utility with South Australian registration abandoned on Carruthers Crescent. Further investigations revealed the vehicle had been earlier stolen from the Gap area.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a white Toyota utility driving in the vicinity of Gillen between 1:30am and 3:00am.

“The stolen vehicle is currently undergoing forensic testing and CCTV footage from the supermarket is being examined.”

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who may have further information in relation to the ram raid or stolen vehicle, is urged to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
