A 31-year-old man will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today in relation to an alleged violent sexual assault upon a 24-year-old woman.

Detective Sergeant Carmen Butcher said the alleged assault took place on Saturday 22 December at Engawala Community.

"The 24-year-old woman received 50 separate documented injuries from the assault. She remains in the Alice Springs Hospital in a stable condition."

The man was arrested in Arlparra yesterday and has since been charged with:

·         Commit act of gross indecency

·         Intend serious harm – cause serious harm

·         Recklessly endangering serious harm

·         Deprivation of liberty

·         Engage in conduct that contravenes DVO
