Arson - Alice Springs

A 25-year-old woman is in Police custody in relation to an alleged arson at Hoppy’s Camp Alice Springs last night.

Detective Sergeant Jon Beer said Police were called to a residence at around 11:40pm following reports of an assault.

“Upon arrival members noticed smoke coming from one of the bedroom windows and the rear of the house was alight.

“Two Police Officers located a 25-year-old woman lying unconscious inside the front doorway of the premises and removed her from harms way before applying first aid.

“A further three officers entered the premises surrounded by smoke and evacuated four people from inside the house.

“The quick thinking and excellent work under pressure by the officers involved has prevented a possible disaster from unfolding.” Detective Sergeant Beer said.

“Fire Units from Alice Springs extinguished the blaze at around midnight with damage to a rear bedroom and minor smoke damage to the internals of the house.

“The woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital and received treatment for smoke inhalation and injuries to her face. She was later arrested and remains in Police custody assisting with enquiries.”

A 33 -year-old man was also arrested in relation to the incident and remains in Police custody assisting with enquiries.
