Call for Public Assistance - Palmerston

Police

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad are investigating an incident that occurred at Palmerston McDonalds overnight.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Kennon said at around 1:00 am Saturday 23 February two young men in a “Can Am” all terrain vehicle (ATV) went through the McDonalds Palmerston drive through when they were called upon to stop by uniformed police.

“It is alleged the driver of the vehicle then accelerated away from police and attempted to ram through a fence.  A police officer attempted to stop the driver and was dragged alongside the buggy, breaking free just before it crashed through a fence. The vehicle then left the area.

“The male offender and passenger are both described as being of Caucasian appearance, 18 to 20 years of age with medium length dark hair. The passenger was wearing a high visibility work shirt.

“CCTV footage shows the vehicle driving around the Palmerston CBD and at one stage stopping near a group of people.

“A 17-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the offence.”

Police urge anyone who saw the vehicle or its occupants last night, or who may have any information relating to the incident, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
