Drug Charges - Alice Springs

Two men aged 41 and 42 will appear in court today facing a number of drug charges following a routine vehicle search on the Stuart Highway.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said Drug Detection Dog “Yona” showed a positive response to drugs at the traffic stop at around 8:20am, 18 January.

“Police located and seized a commercial amount of Cannabis, around $8,500.00 in Australian currency and drug paraphernalia.

“Police will allege that whilst conducting the search, the driver of the vehicle assaulted one officer, punching him to the head and face a number of times.

“A further search of a residence in Alice Springs was conducted in relation to this apprehension which located a second commercial amount of cannabis and around $3,800.00 in Australian currency.” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Phillips said.

The 42-year-old man has been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a dangerous drug (x2), posses dangerous drug (x2), Posses tainted article (x2) and assaulting Police.

The 41-year-old man has been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a dangerous drug and possession of a dangerous drug.

Both men will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
