Fatal Crash - Wagaman

Police

Police from the Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating the crash which claimed the life of a 29-year-old male in Wagaman last night.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant John Worrall from the Major Crash Investigations Unit said the crash occurred at around 10:30pm at the intersection of Vanderlin Drive and Klein Street.

“It appears the vehicle, a Ford falcon sedan, mounted the median strip before striking a tree and a power pole,” Detective Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

"Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance members attended, however the 29-year-old driver was declared deceased at the scene.

“Although it is still early in the investigation, the significant damage to the vehicle indicates that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash. There are also initial indications that alcohol may have played a role.

“This is a tragic incident and I again urge drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions. There is no rush so great as to justify the loss of a life.”

This takes the Northern Territory road toll to two compared to zero for the same time last year.
