A 31-year-old man remains in custody following an aggravated domestic assault in Alice Springs early this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said a 42-year-old woman attended a shelter on Telegraph Terrace at around 4:30 today.

“It is alleged her 31-year-old partner climbed the perimeter fence, entered the building and assaulted the woman,” Detective Senior Sergeant Malley said.

“The man then allegedly removed the woman from the building and took her into scrubland nearby. A security officer followed the man and located him hiding in a drain. He was held there until Police arrived a short time later.

“The woman was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

“The offender was arrested and is currently assisting Police with their enquiries.

“I would like to praise the efforts of the security officer. Without his assistance, this might have ended differently.”
