Taxi Seized Alice Springs

Police

A taxi has been seized by Police, and the driver is facing liquor offence charges after taking liquor into a restricted area.

Police will allege that the taxi departed a local drive through bottle shop and travelled to Hidden Valley Camp, entering the restricted area just before 2.15pm yesterday afternoon.

Superintendent Cathie Bennett, Alice Springs Division said managing alcohol fuelled violence in the town needed community support.

“Alice Springs Police have been working hard alongside other organisations and community groups in the town to ensure that Alice Springs is a safe and secure place to work and live.

“As a community, it is everyone’s responsibility to abide by the laws surrounding alcohol control, and observe restrictions. It is disappointing that alcohol is still being supplied to restricted areas such as town camps, and restricted premises.  Police will do everything in our power to stem the flow of alcohol to these restricted areas”, said Superintendent Bennett.

The 52-year-old driver is facing the charge of Bring Liquor into a Restricted Area.  He is set to appear at the Alice Springs CSJ on 21st March 2013.
