Prevent Cyber Fraud from costing your Business

NT Police Cyber Crime Unit is encouraging small business owners, not-for-profit organisations and finance officers to attend a free Cyber Smart for Business Briefing on 11 September 2019, in Darwin.  The Briefing only takes one and a half hours and can save your business money, time and a lot of headache.  200 registrations will be accepted.

Cyber Crime reported to the NT Police has increased by 40% this year.

Acting Sergeant Jason Corbett of the Cyber Crime Unit said:

  • “The increasing prevalence of Business Email Compromise, an email-based cyber fraud is of particular concern, with the average loss per victim business in the Territory reaching $70,000, yet it is preventable.” and
  • “A Business Email Compromise can also result in the loss of commercially sensitive or private information that can be on-sold on the dark web.”

The Cyber Smart Briefing also provides a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from an ‘ethical hacker’, whose job is to break into a business and organisations computer systems to test their physical and cyber security.  This session which will give small businesses and not-for-profit organisations a real insight into their vulnerabilities.

A representatives from the Australian Cyber Security Centre will then detail the current cyber threats affecting businesses around the country and cyber security controls to protect against them when conducting business online.
