NTFRS send relief crews and equipment to Katherine

Fire and Rescue

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service have sent several relief crews from Darwin to Katherine to assist with the containment and control of multiple fires in the Katherine region.

Four extra Fire Units have been deployed from Darwin, one Firefighting tanker and three grass fire units, which arrived in Katherine earlier this morning to assist NTFRS and Bushfires NT crews who have responded to fires both north and south of Katherine since yesterday.

The fire north of Katherine, in the vicinity of Stuart Estate Zimin Drive, is now contained. It continues to be monitored and requires some blacking-out.

Fire crews are continuing efforts to contain the fire south of Katherine in the vicinity of the Research Farm. The Australian Defence Force has provided a tanker and crew on standby basis from the RAAF Base Tindall to assist.

Drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions. Obey any directions of all fire crews attending the fire ground.
