Fatal crash – Palmerston

Police

The Northern Territory Police Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal motorbike crash last night in Moulden.

Just after 6:30pm, police received a report that a motorcyclist collided with a Holden Commodore Sedan at the intersection of Bonson Terrace and De Mestre Circuit.

The rider, a 33-year-old man, was thrown from the unregistered dirt bike. Nearby residents rendered first aid until paramedics arrived. However, the man died at the scene.

The driver, aged 28, left the crash and was located by police in the surrounding area. He returned a positive result for illicit substances and was taken into police custody.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “The rider was under the influence of alcohol.

According to witnesses, he was speeding and unfortunately not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Major Crash detectives have interviewed a number of witnesses and are continuing the investigation into the crash.

The driver remains in custody and is expected to be charged later today.”
