Northern Territory Police are investigating after multiple large disturbances were reported in the Victoria River Region.

Over the course of Saturday night, police received numerous calls of disturbances in the community of Daly River.

At around 7pm on Sunday, police received a report that a troop carrier with up to 20 persons on board had left Peppiminarti towards Daly River to allegedly continue these disturbances.

Daly River members attended the Daly River Bridge and attempted to stop the incoming vehicle when they were allegedly assaulted with various projectiles causing no injuries to police members.

A short time later a report was received that a 20-year-old man had been struck in the stomach with an arrow within Daly River Community. He has since been conveyed out of the community to received treatment in Royal Darwin Hospital.

Local members, supported by Batchelor and Adelaide River police have maintained calm within the community and an investigation into the incidents is ongoing.

Superintendent Paul Faustmann said “The behaviour we saw from a small cohort over the weekend was completely unacceptable. Detectives from Serious Crime will be investigating the incident where a young man was struck with an arrow, and the community rest assured that police are working tirelessly to identify the offender. 

“Attacks on our members will also be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible put before the courts.

“The vast majority of residents throughout the region are sick and tired of this behaviour and our members are committed to maintaining community safety and stopping this violence from occurring. 

"Local officers will continue to work with Elders, Traditional Owners and the community to ensure that calm is maintained.”
