A man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to rob a service station in Alice Springs at the weekend.

Police received a report just after 4:30 pm on Saturday of an armed hold-up at the BP Service Station in Gap Road. A man allegedly went into the BP armed with a kitchen knife and threatened the 31 year old male staff member. The victim told police that the man had threatened him and chased him through the store with a knife before stealing a bottle of Wild Turkey and fleeing the premises.

Police have arrested a 22 year-old-man and charged him with numerous offences including;
Assault - threaten with firearm / weapon
Stealing property from a shop
Robbery while armed - dangerous weapon
Resist police in execution of duty
Furnish false name to member

He appeared in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today where he was remanded in custody to appear again on January 12, 2010.
