FAQs

What if I live interstate?

The same processes outlined above should be adhered to; however this procedure relies on the goodwill and support of interstate Police services. NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES) has no formal arrangement with interstate Police to provide this service. NTPFES offers no guarantee that your local Police service will be able to assist.
If you require further information, or have further questions, feel free to contact us on the details at the top of the page.

What is the difference between a Request for Personal Information and a Freedom of Information Request?

A request for personal information is an informal administrative process that can be completed quite quickly because there is only a small amount of personal information to be processed.
A Freedom of Information request is a formal process, is governed by the Information Act (NT) and may be utilised when there is a large amount of information requested, the information is sensitive information or if the request is for non-personal Government information.

Requests and Fees

Information requests with revenue unit values

The Northern Territory Department of Treasury and Finance determine the value of a Revenue Unit for all Northern Territory Government Departments. Revenue Units are governed by the Northern Territory Revenue Units Act 2009 and are subject to change 1 July each year. Unfortunately, these fees can NOT be waived under any circumstances.

Please see the Fee Advice for the current rate associated with this request or for more information visit NT Dept. of Treasury and Finance.

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) & Drug Analysis Reports

Where the analysis has been undertaken as part of a Police investigation, a copy of the relevant certificate(s) can be provided at the cost of 45 Revenue Units per certificate.

Where the analysis has not been requested by Police but a blood sample exists, application to have the sample analysed can be made by the donor or a third party with a legitimate interest in the results which has provided an Authority to Release Information document signed by the donor or his/her legally recognised representative.  The Forensic Chemistry Unit can analyse the sample based on a fee for service; a BAC analysis is 125 Revenue Units, a Drug Screen analysis is 250 Revenue Units, and a Drug Confirmation analysis is 375 Revenue Units.
