A 27-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the alleged attempted sexual assault and deprivation of liberty of a 35-year-old woman.

A witness to the assault promptly alerted police who intervened and were able to prevent the man from inflicting any further harm on the victim.

The man has been charged with attempted sexual intercourse without consent and deprivation of liberty. He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Katherine Court on Monday 23 November.

"The prompt actions by the witness to alert police to this incident meant that the victim was spared any further harm, "said Acting Sergeant Suzanne Hollingsworth.
