Cannabis Seizures – Alice Springs - 4414136

Police were called to the Caltex Service Station on the Stuart Highway, Alice Springs, at around 1.30am this morning after a man placed a bag of cannabis on the counter whilst paying for groceries.

Two men, aged 32 and 28, were arrested after Drug Dog Yona found 14 grams of Cannabis in the clothing of one of the men. Both were interviewed and the 32-year-old was released without charge while the 28-year-old was charged with possession of Cannabis in a public place.

He has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on December 15.

Meanwhile two men will appear in court after police allegedly found a quantity of Cannabis in a car.

A Mitsubishi Triton utility travelling from South Australia to Alice Springs on the Stuart Highway was stopped and searched just after 5pm on Thursday, November 19. During the search members of the Drug Intelligence Unit and the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk found just over 100 grams of Cannabis in the vehicle. Police said the drugs had a potential street value of $20,400 if sold in remote communities.

Two men aged 22 and 27 were arrested and charged with possessing and supplying a trafficable quantity of cannabis. The vehicle driven by the men was also seized. The 22-year-old was granted bail to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on December 10 while the 27-year-old was remanded in custody to appear on December 17.
