The end of Operation RADO

Police

Northern Territory Police have completed their seven week school holiday operation, making a total of 73 arrests.

Operation RADO began on 07 December and ran through to 23 January and was focused primarily on property offenders and known antisocial areas in the Darwin and Palmerston region over the Christmas school holiday period.

The operational team was made up of 24 members from the Commander's Tactical Team, general duties members from Casuarina, Darwin and Palmerston along with School Based Constables and several members from the Territory Intelligence Division.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan of the Commander's Tactical Team said that the operation was a great success.

"With the assistance from members of the public, police arrested 73 offenders, 34 of which were youths.

"A further 17 people are to be summonsed, two were referred to Youth Diversion and four received written warnings.

"Members have worked tirelessly throughout the operation recovering stolen property, seizing weapons, speaking to youths, returning them home and moving people on.

"Although the operation has come to an end, I would still like to urge everyone to always secure your home and belongings at all times, confirm where your children are staying and where they are throughout the day and if possible, avoid leaving valuables in your car to avoid an opportunistic thief striking" he said.

Police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious or antisocial behaviour by calling 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
