The Northern Territory road toll has risen to 29 following a single vehicle rollover that occurred on Larapinta Drive, Alice Springs this afternoon.

At about 3.00 pm police received a report of a single vehicle rollover just west of Alice Springs. Members attended the scene along with St John Ambulance officers.

On arrival it was ascertained there were four occupants in the vehicle and a female passenger, aged 29, had died. The 43-year-old male driver was allegedly intoxicated and he was arrested. Two other adult female passengers were also injured but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

It appears the vehicle was travelling in-bound on Larapinta Drive when for some unknown reason has veered off the road and rolled.

Police are still at the scene of the crash and it is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor and investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash.

The Territory road toll for the same period last year was 70.
