Arrests for car thefts - 4485668

Police

Police have arrested three youths in relation to the stealing of two Mercedes Benz cars in Alice Springs last week.

The vehicles were both stolen from a residence in Roberts Crescent in the early hours of Thursday morning. Police found one of the vehicles abandoned near a block of units and the other crashed into a tree in Skinner Street.

Members of the Property Crime Reduction Unit arrested a 14-year-old boy at his home on Friday night in relation to the thefts. He has been charged with unlawful entry, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and a number of traffic offences. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Youth Justice Court today.

On Saturday police arrested a 17-year-old youth over the same matters. He has been charged with similar offences and has been bailed to appear in court later this week.

On Sunday a 13-year-old boy was arrested for breaching his bail conditions in relation to another matter. Investigations led police to identify him as a co-offender in the unlawful use of motor vehicles. He has been remanded in custody to appear in the youth justice court over the breach of bail matter, and a summons file has also been prepared in relation to the unlawful use of motor vehicle's matter.
