Arrests – Unlawful entries and stealing

Members from the Commanders Tactical Team have arrested three youths in relation to a spate of unlawful entries that occurred in the Northern Suburbs over the past month.

It is alleged the offenders unlawfully entered a Wulagi residence between 9:00pm on March 6 and 2:00am the following morning and removed a number of items including mobile phones, jewellery and a hand bag containing ATM cards.

The stolen ATM cards were later reported to have been used to withdraw cash at a Karama service station on March 7.

Members from the Commanders Tactical Team located the male offenders aged 17, 17 & 15-years-old yesterday at a residence in Malak. Police also located numerous items reported stolen from further unlawful entries.

The youths were arrested and conveyed to Darwin Watch House.

One of the 17-year-old offenders is expected to be charged with receiving stolen property and has been bailed, the other is facing aggravated unlawful entry, stealing and obtain benefit by deception charges. He has been remanded in custody to appear in court today.

The 15-year-old was released to be summonsed.

In a separate incident members from the Commanders Tactical Team also arrested a 48-year-old man in relation to stealing offences yesterday.

Police attended a Humpty Doo home yesterday and executed a search warrant resulting in the seizure of a Yamaha quad bike and trays to two further quad bikes alleged to have been stolen from properties in Darwin River and Noonamah between January 24 and March 5. The search also uncovered a cache of unregistered firearms which have been seized.

The man has been charged with a number of property crime and firearm offences and bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 7 April 2010.

Senior Sergeant Jeff Mosel says "good investigative police work resulted in the arrest of these offenders and police will continue to target property crime offenders to disrupt their activities".
