NT Police and the Fire and Rescue Service were called to an attempted arson incident in Driver yesterday at about 8:00am.

It is believed a 24-year-old man poured petrol throughout the residence and on a 59-year-old woman before threatening to light the house on fire. Three people living at the unit moved outside and called police.

Members and Fire Service personnel forced entry to the premises before taking the man into custody. He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment before being conveyed to Darwin Watch House.

He is expected to be charged in relation to the following offences:

Attempt to commit arson
Assault a Police Officer
