Police are warning young drivers about the dangers of drink driving after eight drivers were caught overnight - six of them aged under 25.

One of the worst incidents was that of a 22-year-old man who blew .210 per cent after crashing his Holden Commodore at the intersection of Chung Wah Crescent and Fairway Drive in Palmerston.

He was arrested while trying to leave the scene of the crash and has been charged with numerous offences including:

High range drink driving
Driving and uninsured and unregistered vehicle
Drive without due care
Failing to wear a seat belt.

Also in Palmerston an 18-year-old woman blew .035 percent, a 24-year-old woman blew .082 per cent, and a 25-year-old man blew .085 per cent.

In Katherine a 37-year-old man was caught driving with a blood alcohol level of .130 per cent while a 22-year-old woman blew .102 per cent.

In Alice Springs police arrested a 21-year-old man after he was caught driving disqualified with a blood alcohol level of .149 per cent.

And in Santa Teresa Police arrested a 44-year-old man after he was found to be driving with a blood alcohol level of .279 percent.

Superintendent Del Jones said the arrests were a significant cause for concern.

"This is a worrying number of drink drivers over a relatively short period of time, especially as so many of them were young drivers. Police will continue to conduct regular RBT stations in an effort to get these drivers off the road. They are not only a danger to themselves but to all other road users."
