Drug operation results–Alice Springs

Police

Police in Alice Springs have executed 15 search warrants since the beginning of a two week drug operation -Operation Hyde.

As part of the Operation police also ran a two-day Dob in a Druggie campaign which resulted in a number of calls with information about the supply and trafficking of drugs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lauren Hill said the Operation included members of the Substance Abuse Intelligence desk, the Dog Operations Unit, the Drug Intelligence Unit and members of the Remote Community Drug Desk in Darwin and was funded by the Commonwealth agency, FACHSIA.

During the two weeks of the operation police seized 2.365 kg of Cannabis, a quantity of Ecstasy, seven Cannabis plants and seeds, and 15.5 grams of an as-yet unidentified white powder.

Five people will appear in court on various drug and firearms-related charges, and a further seven have been issued with drug infringement notices.

"This has been a well-orchestrated and targeted operation and has not only led to a number of seizures, but we have gathered a comprehensive amount of intelligence about who's involved in the transportation and supply of drugs in Central Australia," Det Sen Sgt Hill said.

"We are confident we have managed to significantly disrupt the distribution of illegal substances and we will continue to utilise our combined resources to target the transport and supply of drugs into Central Australia and particularly remote communities."

Det Senior Sergeant Hill said police would like to thank the media and those members of the public who assisted by providing information through Dob in a Druggie.
