Drunk drivers – Alice Springs

Police

Two men were arrested in Alice Springs overnight after they were found to be driving with high range blood alcohol levels.

In the first incident police pulled over the driver of a Ford Falcon on Sadadeen Road for a random breath test just before 12.30pm last night. When the man was asked to get out of his car he allegedly fell face first onto the road. He was found to be driving with a blood alcohol level of .211 per cent. He has been charged with unlicensed driving and driving with a high range blood alcohol level.

Police also arrested a 43-year-old man after he was caught driving erratically at 90 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone. Police noticed the man's Holden Commodore weaving across two lanes as he was travelling west along Wills Terrace around 2am last night.

When the man noticed the marked police car he slowed down to 20 kilometres an hour and was pulled over by police in Schwarz Crescent a short time later. He was found to be driving with a blood alcohol content of .249 per cent. The man has been charged with disqualified driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, high range drink driving and speeding. Both men have been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
