The woman was apprehended by police while collecting her baggage after getting off a flight from Cains shortly after 7:00 pm. The woman admitted to police that she was carrying Kava.
Police conducted a search of four luggage pieces belonging to the woman and located 23 large clip seal bags containing Kava.
"The Kava has an estimated street value of $14,000 if it had been sold in remote communities, where police believe it was headed," Senior Sergeant Martin McCallum said.
The woman has been charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of Kava and will face Nhulunbuy court on 3 August.
