One of the Northern Territory's most senior and longest serving police officers has today resigned from the NT Police Force.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Mcadie informed the Commissioner of Police this morning that he would be leaving the Police Force on 4 August to pursue personal interests in semi-retirement after a police career in the Territory spanning 35 years.

"Semi-retirement is an option I have planned for many years," Mr Mcadie said.

"I will taking some time off and had already planned a long overseas trip for this year.

"I have been a proud member of the NT Police Force for 35 years. My affection and regard for the Police Force and particularly all of the members, the public sector staff and our colleagues in both the NTFRS and NTES will remain with me for life.

"I have always held the view that I could not have worked with a finer body of men and women," he said.

Mr Mcadie said he would continue to live in the Territory and would remain closely involved with police through his involvement in the Police Historical Society, the Police Monument, the Police Supplementary Benefit Scheme and Police Legacy.

"I will also increase my commitment to a number of other community bodies in the NT and hope to be able to continue to serve the NT in this capacity for many years to come."

Media pls note: Mr Mcadie will be available for interview at 1pm today outside the NAB building at 71 Smith Street.
