Plane Search Nightcliff - Update

Police

At 7:30am this morning the search for an alleged missing aircraft in the Nightcliff area was called off.

The initial report was received just after 6:00pm yesterday however the search was hindered last night by bad weather, recommencing at first light this morning.

Better conditions this morning enabled police to evaluate the situation.

Police attended the vicinity of Kululuk Community and located two structures; that when aligned together at a position on Progress Drive appeared to look like a small air craft in the mangroves.

Duty Superintendent Mike Murphy said "This incident demonstrates the preparedness of Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services and our capability to respond and work closely with other government agencies to provide an emergency response.

The comprehensive search was coordinated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority in Canberra, in close consultation with a Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator within the Territory Response Section.

Marine and Fisheries Section, General Duties members, Fire and Rescue Service and the Care flight Helicopter were all included and provided valuable support during the search.
