Police apprehended six drink drivers across the Territory overnight.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Katherine at about 4:00pm yesterday after returning a blood alcohol content reading of .184 percent. He is expected to be charged with high range drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.

At 8:50pm last night a 33-year-old man was arrested for drink driving in Santa Teresa after police apprehended him on Santa Teresa Road driving a red Holden Commodore. He returned a high range blood alcohol content reading of .203 percent and is expected to be charged with high range drink driving and driving while disqualified.

About forty minutes later a 38-year-old man was apprehended on Tanami Road in Yuendumu. He returned a blood alcohol content reading of .126 percent and will be charged in relation to high range drink driving.

A female was later arrested in Moulden after producing a blood alcohol content reading of .126. Police apprehended her driving a silver Hyundai on Moulden Terrace at about 10:45pm; she is expected to be charged in relation to medium range drink driving offences.

Early this morning two males aged 18 & 20-years-old were apprehended for drink driving in the rural area. At about 1:30am Police attended the Humpty Doo tavern and apprehended the two males for a breath analysis, the both returned medium range blood alcohol content readings of .134 and .123 percent. The men will be charged in relation to medium range drink driving offences.

Watch Commander Daniel Shean said "Driving whilst under the influence of alcohol is a significant contributing factor to road crashes and associated trauma. Of concern is the number of apprehended drivers that are not only driving whilst intoxicated but are repeat offenders driving while disqualified".

"This is a dangerous combination whereby, if it were not for the good work done by police in detecting the offences, their actions could have amounted to further road trauma".
