More than 177 litres of alcohol were seized and destroyed in a special three-day operation in Central Australia last week.

During the operation 23 vehicles were searched resulting in 177.2 litres of alcohol being seized. Police also seized a .22 calibre firearm and 15 grams of Cannabis.

Four people were arrested for various offences including possession of a firearm and drink driving. Police issued six traffic infringement notices and three drug infringement notices. Police also executed four search warrants and 66 people were searched.

Senior Constable Adam Van Oosten of the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk said the operation was the most recent in a series of on-going campaigns to stop grog and illegal drugs from being trafficked into remote communities.

"The operation targeted both the main access roads and the back tracks into remote communities to deter and apprehend those trying to bring illicit substances into these areas," Sen Const Van Oosten said.

"We will continue to regularly target these areas as part of our on-going campaign to counter substance abuse in remote communities across the APY and NPY lands."
