Speeding incident - Berrimah

Police

A 25-year-old male was apprehended yesterday for allegedly travelling almost double the speed limit in an 80kms zone.

Police apprehended the man driving a black Holden Commodore utility on Berrimah Road at about 4:20pm yesterday after he was witnessed driving at 157kms per hour in the 80kms zone.

The offender is to be summonsed for the offence of drive speed/manner dangerous and the vehicle was issued a defect notice.

Senior Sergeant Virginia Read says "The speed at which this driver was travelling is extremely dangerous, not only to him, but other road users as well. Coupled with the vehicle not being of a roadworthy standard, this was an accident waiting to happen and cannot be tolerated".

"Police urge drivers to be considerate of other road users and to ensure that if they make alterations to their vehicles, ensure they are approved by the Motor Vehicle Registry or your vehicle will be defected and you may face prosecution".
