Stolen Truck - Winnellie

A 53-year-old man will face numerous charges after stealing a truck from a business in Winnellie over the weekend.

It is alleged the man stole a 10-tonne Hino Freight Truck from a business on Reichardt Road in Winnellie on Saturday night. It is believed he smashed a control box on a security gate to gain access to the compound before smashing the trucks passenger side window and locating the spare keys.

The offender proceeded to drive the truck through double gates at the business causing approximately $10 000 worth of damage to the fences and $10 000 worth of damage to the vehicle.

At about 10:30 am the following day police located the truck at a Gray shopping centre and subsequently arrested the man a short time later.

He has been charged with:

aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
trespass on enclosed premises
3 x aggravated criminal damage
drive unlicensed
breach bail
drive vehicle with a low range blood alcohol level.

He has since been bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 27 July.
