Vehicle Crash - Berrimah - Update

At about 9:00pm last night police were called to an incident where a pedestrian had been struck by a four wheel drive on Vanderlin Drive in Berrimah.

The victim appears to have been walking from Agostini Rd toward the vicinity of the Wow shopping complex before stepping in front of the Toyota Hilux on Vanderlin Drive. The 32-year-old male driver is believed to be travelling at about 80 km per hour towards McMillans Road when the collision occurred.

Police and Saint John Ambulance attended the scene and conveyed the man to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit with head injuries.

A section of Vanderlin Drive was closed for about 1.5 hours last night and all traffic was diverted from the scene.

Initial investigation indicates that alcohol and speed are not contributing factors in relation to the incident. Major Crash Investigators continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police urge any one who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 131 444. Members are particularly interested in talking to the couple who rendered assistance to the injured man at the scene.
